Palau Community College – Upward Bound Program held their Fall Student Orientation on Monday, October 2, 2017 for the 2017-2018 Academic Year. Students from the local high schools attended the session to learn more about the Upward Bound classes, workshops, and related program information. The orientation session opened with remarks from Assistant Program Director Helen Immanuel. In which she informed students about the program goals, class schedule, tutoring, and workshops. Later in the orientation, students from Palau High School, Emmaus-Bethania High School, and Palau Mission Academy introduced themselves and got to know their counselors and other fellow classmates.
PCC Upward Bound Program provides fundamental support and opportunities for high school students who seek to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately their higher education endeavors. Its goal is to increase the rate at which its participants complete their secondary education and enroll in or graduate from institutions of higher education. It is one of the eight (8) TRiO programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
The recipients of the program grants, depending on the specific program, are institutions of higher education, public and private agencies and organizations including community-based organizations with experience in serving disadvantaged youth and secondary schools. PCC Upward Bound program has been serving Palau local high schools for the last 35 years. Palau Community College welcomes new and returning Upward Bound students to the campus and wish them succesful academic year.
