Palau Community College (PCC) hosted a 9-11 Memorial Service on the evening of Friday, September 11, 2020. Guests were invited to join in commemorating and remembering the victims and honoring the heroes of 9-11. Held at the PCC Assembly Hall, this was the twentieth 9-11 Memorial Service hosted by the college. Guests included Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Palau His Excellency John Hennessey-Niland and the US Embassy staff; President of US Armed Forces Veterans Association of Palau Greg Ngirmang and members of the Civic Action Team (CAT) serving in Palau; parents of the Palauan soldiers who had dedicated their lives to the fight against terrorism; and members of the community. PCC Tourism & Hospitality faculty Jenelle I. Blesam was the Master of Ceremony for the evening with special numbers sang by PCC student Beckwin Mechol, FSM Choir, and PCC Music instructor Howard E. Charles. President Dr. Tellei gave a moving remembrance message by “reminding us to never forget the the sacrifices made on that tragic day and in succeeding days, weeks, months, and even years and all the events associated with getting rid of this affliction on terrorism”. Over three thousand people lost their lives with 266 passengers and crew boarded on four aircrafts, 343 firefighters died that day. U.S. Ambassador Niland gave a special message of appreciation and gratitude to Palau leaders and government officials, including the college and the Palauan families of the fallen heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom and democracy. The 9-11 memorial service is an annual event host ed by PCC to commemorate victims and heroes of that September day.
