Palau Community College (PCC) held its first Career Expo on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the PCC Cafeteria. The theme of the Career Expo was “BE INFORMED! MAKE THE RIGHT CAREER CHOICE!” The Career Expo provides an outlet through which Palau Community College students could learn about available job opportunities on the island as well as gain information that may shape their future careers.
The Career Expo participants included all 8 government ministries, 4 private companies, and PCC Cooperative Research & Extension Division. The Career Expo began with panel presentations from 9AM to 10:30AM followed by the opening of information booths from 10:35AM to 12PM. The panel presentations focused on available career opportunities within each ministry or company in Palau, education requirements, training needs, and future career demands.

According to Minister Kuartei, the Ministry of State is willing and able to hire interested Palau Community College graduates. He stressed that there is an abundance of available scholarships and training opportunities so students should not be excused from earning a higher degree or pursue professional training after Palau Community College.
Minister Sengebau followed Minister Kuartei’s proposal by offering internship opportunities to students interested in working for the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment & Tourism. Minister Sengebau also expressed the importance of earning a higher degree and pursuing specialized skills in areas in which Palau lacks of local professionals.
PCC-CRE Vice President Taro then followed up on Minister Sengebau’s offer by assuring students that the RIIA program offers scholarships to Agricultural Science and is able to pay for students who are interested in doing their internships at the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment & Tourism.
After the panel presentations, the information booths were opened. Students visited the booths for additional information about career opportunities and interacted with representatives from the numerous ministries, businesses, and companies. The information booths were full of information displays, equipment, posters, pamphlets, job applications, and numerous giveaways.

The Career Expo is part of Palau Community College – Career/Transfer Counseling effort that helps retain, graduate, and assist the graduating students choose the right careers. It also provides assistance to students who are pursuing higher levels of education or transferring to four-year institutions.
