Palau Community College Cafeteria Supervisor Gurney Lee T. Umang recently made a headline on his outstanding performance during the 1st Pelagic Fish Cookout Challenge at Palau Tourism and Hospitality School of Excellence (PTHSE). The audience was in awe with Mr. Umang’s special dish of the night, a flounder grilled yellow fin tuna garnished with various local vegetables. This truly raised a lot positive feedback which in turn earned him more votes to win the first place in this event. The Cookout Challenge was open to all food service cooks to showcase their talents, skills, and passion for cooking. There were eight (8) participants in this cookout event with 35 minutes allotted time to finish the final dish. The event was sponsored by The Nature Conservancy, Palau National Marine Sanctuary, Ministry of Community & Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Education, and Palau Community College.
