Palau Community College (PCC) hosted a Career & Technical Education Awareness Week from Tuesday, March 11, 2014 to Thursday, March 13, 2014. Over 400 students from the local high schools were invited to the college campus to learn about the different programs offered at the school. During their visit, the students were given presentations by different instructors about their respective fields of teaching (e.g., environmental science). In addition, students were able to witness first-hand demonstrations by PCC students of the lessons learned in their fields of study (e.g., wielding).
During the first day of the awareness week, PCC Dean of Students Sherman Daniel welcomed the high school students on behalf of the college. In his welcoming remarks, Dean Daniel advised each student to consider their future careers in a very serious manner, especially if the student is in his/her final year of high school. The students were encouraged to take advantage of the awareness week opportunity and explore all the possible programs offered at their local community college.
The PCC Career & Technical Education Awareness Week aims to introduce local high school students to the available programs, especially the career and technical education programs such as general electronics, at the college. By providing the information, PCC hopes to entice the students to consider their local college as they pursue their higher education plans.
