A week-long workshop titled “Tuning-up Your Farm for Improved Performance, Greater Safety, and Smoother Profits” was hosted at Palau Community College from Monday, August 25, 2014 to Friday, August 29, 2014. The workshop was a training program about local farming and its marketing potential. Topics covered during the workshop included business planning, understanding buyer’s motivation, farm safety, food safety, cost of production, adding value to raw agriculture products, improving post-harvest quality, and successful farm planning.
Instructors for the workshop were Agricultural Economist Jim Hollyer from the University of Hawaii, Bob Bishop of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and PCC-CRE Vice President Thomas Taro. The workshop was organized by PCC, the Micronesia Land Grant Program, the Bureau of Agriculture, the joint FAO/Bureau of Agriculture/Palau Organic Growers Project, and the Palau Taiwan Farmers Association.
