A group of students from the Ryukoku Daigaku (university) in Kyoto, Japan visited the campus of Palau Community College (PCC) on Monday, February 23, 2015. The students were accompanied by Ryukoku Professor of Economics, Yasukatsu Matsushima. During their visit, the students met with PCC Japanese Language Instructor Reiko Kawamura and the students of the JP-119: Conversational Japanese II Class.
The meeting allowed the JP-119 students to practice their Japanese language skills by interviewing the guests. The interviews comprised of self-introductions and hospitality questions, all conducted in the Japanese language. In addition, the PCC students shared the Palauan culture by introducing the Japanese students to samples of local foods.
In exchange, the students from the Ryukoku Daigaku shared the Japanese culture by performing a local folk song titled “Furusato (Hometown)” and a traditional dance about a fisherman. They also gave the JP-119 class gifts such as traditional Japanese outfits and mementos from the university.
