On September 24, 2018 Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Science (JIRCAS) conducted a one-day “Development of Sustainable Resources Management System” workshop in Palau Community College Assembly Hall. The focus of the workshop was to have Palau project members from Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Tourism (MNRET), Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB), and Palau Community College share progress of activities, exchange ideas to improve activities and update action plans of current watershed in Babeldaob. JIRCAS project leader Dr. Takeshi Watanabe welcomed and introduced all workshop presenters from JIRCAS. PCC CRE Vice President Thomas Taro also welcomed our presenters from JIRCAS and introduced participants from Palau who are also presenters of the workshop. Established in October 1993, JIRCAS formerly known as Tropical Agriculture Research Center (TARC). With a mandate to include forestry and fisheries in its focus, it was reorganized in 2001 to include Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF).
The purpose of JIRCAS is to undertake comprehensive experimental research for technological advancement of agriculture, forestry, fisheries and related industries, collects, analyzes and publishes information of domestic and international researches which are relevant to agriculture, forestry and fisheries as well as farming systems in other countries, and seeks to contribute solutions to global food and environmental problems as well as to the stable supply of agricultural, forestry and fishery products and resources.
During lunch break, JIRCAS delegation payed a courtesy visit to PCC President Tellei accompanied by CRE Vice President Taro.
