On September 28, 2018 the participants of the Care-Giver Program were certified during their graduation ceremony at Bailechesau, Melekeok State. A total of thirty (30) caregivers were awarded: Christa Eldebechel, Corine Malsol, Cris De Leon, Danilo S. Calaunan, Dinah-Lee B. Thomas, Edgar O. Clave, Edna B. Dematawaran, Edwin Tucheliaur Jr., Elsie Ann Ikeya, Eric Mongami, Flora Delmel, Frutoso Tellei, Glaudine Gabino, Gigi Velez, Jerry B. Pagela, Joy Antonio, Juana Rengulbai, Juliana Ramarui, Ki-shea N. Liep, Lomalinda Gabriel, Mohammed Baules, Monique Eriang, Noe Yalap, Omar Faustino, Philia R. Masayos, Raymond Ongino, Ruth Elbelau, Salvadora Katosang, Sorcha O. Basilius, and Svetlena Kadoi.
Present to witness the awarding ceremony were Melekeok Governor Henaro M. Polloi, PCC President Dr. Patrick U. Tellei, Delegate Lentcer Basilius, Palau Red Cross Society Executive Director Maireng Sengebau, Dean of Continuing Education, Jefferson Thomas, and Deacon Christopher Debengek. The program’s instructors, Dr. Sylvia Osarch, Amos Solomon, Dr. Louisa Santos, and John Mark Olkeriil were also present. In a collaborative effort with Palau Red Cross Society, Ministry of Health, Palau Community College (PCC), Care-Giving program continues to be offered to interested individual. The participants of this training are taught by volunteer instructors to provide needed basic care-giving skills. The training session is one-week in which various modules are taught each night of the week. Each module covers different aspect of care-giving such as proper way to prepare meals for a patient, personal hygiene, and different illnesses that may plague a patient. In addition, trainees learn how to deal with the emotional and physical stresses of the occupation.
PCC, Ministry of Health, and Palau Red Cross Society congratulate participants for completing the training and thank them for taking part on this very worthy and humble training to assist our elders and bedridden family members.
